Book Deal!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have already seen some very exciting news. I HAVE A BOOK DEAL! The fact that I can even type that sentence is a miracle. I keep reminding myself: This is actually happening. Holy crap, it’s happening!

The first book is called If Birds Fly Back, and I’m also working on a second YA novel.

I met my UK editor (Rachel Petty) in December 2015 and spoke with my US editor (Jocelyn Davies) shortly after that, so I’ve been keeping this secret for a very long time! Well, full disclosure: I may have let it leak to a close group of family and friends, because a secret of this magnitude demands to be shared.

I am so proud to be a part of the HarperTeen and Macmillan families. They are dream publishers, and I know my book is in excellent hands. I’ve already gone through structural edits and line edits (woot, woot!) and only have copyedits to go. US publication is scheduled for Summer 2017—so Linny and Sebastian will soon be out in the world. And by world, I really mean world! The novel will be available (so far) in Spanish with Penguin Random House, and in German with Arena Verlag. Gracias and Danke.

Here’s how Macmillan pitched it at Bologna, the world’s biggest Children’s Book Fair:

Yes! If Birds Fly Back is Paper Towns meets I’ll Give You the Sun! Casual. Just two of my favorite books written by two of my favorite authors. Okay, I’ll stop hyperventilating now.

Maybe I’m still hyperventilating! Because you can add If Birds Fly Back on Goodreads!

Thank you to everyone who has already added my book, and also to everyone who has wished me good luck—including some of my favorite YA authors, which is seriously surreal. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly grateful.
