I’ve read a good deal of Sarah Dessen books, so I don’t think it would be wrong for me to claim that Saint Anything is her best. Like The Truth About Forever, it has a love story—but the book is so, so much more than that. It’s about family struggling to keep it together after a tragedy. It’s about guilt by association and finding yourself and strong female friendship. Mac is the love interest here, sure—but Sydney’s relationship with his sister Layla, as well as with her parents, is what really brought me to tears. I’ll always have a soft spot for Sarah Dessen, and this book just further cements why.

It’s a contemporary story, so set around the year it was published – 2013. In the story, a brother seriously injures a young boy in a drunk-driving accident, and his family is dealing with the consequences.
