I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
If there’s any single book that the world needs right now, it’s The Bone Sparrow.
It’s hard even to know where to begin with this gorgeous, important middle grade novel. The prose is astounding, and the voice is spot-on. I love Subhi. I love him with all my heart. I love his little talking duck, his storytelling, and his innocence. This is a book about a child coming to understand the horrors of his world, and it is done with such finesse that the heaviness and lightness balance. You are simultaneously left with a pit in your stomach and hope in your heart. I cried all over its pages.
If you are looking for a book about refugees (or really, just about humanity), I can’t recommend The Bone Sparrow highly enough. If you are going to read one middle grade book this year, I’m begging you to make it this one.
